The lockdown has changed our lives in many ways, but not all bad; I’ve made the most amazing connections on-line, with beautiful people all over the world. In particular, I became inspired by a project in Uganda called “A Future a Girl”, established to help girls lead a better life.
I wanted to help but how, so I asked and finally sent a ‘test’ parcel, mainly containing bra’s, which I collected from my friends around Kent, together with two sets of netball bibs, a couple of balls and pumps, from my netball club, CFX, (Coaching for eXcellence), as I knew they loved netball. During the recent troubles in Uganda, I had no idea if it would be received, OK. To my delight, following my instinct of love and hope, the parcel arrived, and as you can see in the video, they loved it!
Girls and women worldwide love netball, but with no shoes and lots of stones on the ground, their development and enjoyment are limited. They also have very little equipment, balls, bibs and posts. However, the main problem is that girls have a stressful, debilitating experience during their monthly menstrual cycle due to a lack of sanitary napkins; they are too expensive! They must resort to recyclable sanitary provisions, which cause many problems but mostly hygiene issues and infections, and definitely no sport!
Taking a step back, the lockdown allowed me to consider what’s really important in life? Of course, my family means a lot to me, and their welfare is paramount, but what matters to me beyond my personal life?
Wayne Dwyer, American self-help, spiritual author and motivational speak, wrote a book, “I can see clearly now”, and this is how it feels for me; I profoundly realise that the only and most critical higher purpose I have whilst living in the earthly body is to raise awareness and take action towards humanity living more equally, peaceful and respectful of each other, irrespective of gender, race, religion, proximity and culture.
